Sujatha Attanayake's Biography To Be Launched

"Sujatha Attanayaka Divisirita", the biography of Visharada Sujatha Attanayake and "Sujatha Attanayaka Geethawaliya" to be launched on this weekend to celebrate the award winning singer's 75th birthday and 67th year of her music career. The biography is written by Amila Lokumanna. The function will be held at 3.00pm on 11 November at Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo. Kolitha Banu Dissanayake and Dileepa Abeysekera to be deliver speeches at the event'.

One of the most respected singers of Sri Lanka, Sujatha Attanayake born in 1942, is the third child of Tower Hall actress and vocalist Vimala Kantha. She is the only Sri Lankan singer with singer with widest tonal range on par with Indian classical singers such as Lata Mangeshkar.

Her first playback song was for S. M. Nayagam’s film ‘Sohoyuro’ in 1956, since then she had contributed her voice to around 350 films including 19 Tamil films. Her song collection includes not only Sinhala but also Tamil, Hindi, Nepali, Gujarati and Islamic songs. She is the Sri Lanka's first Sinhalese music directress with William Ohlams’ movie Hariyata Hari. Her songs including Sadu Dantha Da, Jeevana Vila Meda, Punchi Dawaswala, Puthune Me Ahaganna, Maligawe Ma Rajini,Aadarae Mandirae, Meedum Walawen, Mal Sugande, Magae Mathake and Koho Koho still remain among the fan favorites.
