TNL, Owned By PM's Brother, Awarded Asia Cup Telecast Rights: Cricket Fans Complain Of Poor Coverage

February 21, 2016

A number of cricket fans have raised concerns on poor coverage of TNL TV, following the announcement that it will telecast the Asia Cup tournament starting on February 24.

According to a coverage map uploaded on the TNL Facebook Page, large areas of the island are not being covered by the television network. Furthermore, viewers have complained on poor coverage even in areas within the coverage areas.

The former government of Mahinda Rajapaksa was criticised or awarding telecast rights to CSN, allegedly controlled by his son Yoshitha Rajapaksa. Following the election of the present government, it was reported that Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation was awarded telecast rights for two years. However, it is said that the SLRC was given only the telecast rights for the games played in the island.

TNL is owned by the elder brother of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
