Severe criticism was leveled at certain media for their conduct in reporting news related to the murder of a five-year-old girl in Kotadeniyawa recently. Despite this, a local newspaper, ‘Mawbima’, today published a photograph of the 17-year-old suspect in the case, even without blurring his face.

 

The school boy and another suspect were produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate yesterday and were further remanded till October 2.

 

‘Ceylon Today’, the sister paper of ‘Mawbima’, also reported the news under the headline of ‘Seya Murder: School Boy Further Remanded’ on its front page. However, this story did not carry the photograph of the suspect.
