Former Parliamentarian Ali Zahir Moulana Leads SLMC In Batticaloa

Former MP Ali Zahir Moulana, who defected to the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress recently, has been assigned as the SLMC team leader in Batticaloa District.
 
Moulana handed over SLMC nominations at Batticaloa this morning.
 
He was a UNP Member of Parliament August 1994 until his resignation on June 23, 2004. He resigned due to controversy surrounding his assistance in bringing Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, alias Karuna Amman, to Colombo.
 
In March 2011 Moulana was elected as Chairman of Eravur Urban Council. He was appointed as a member of Eastern Provincial Council in place of Ameer Ali who resigned his post. On 6th February 2015, he took oath before Gevernor of Eastern Province Austin Fernando.
