Mortars Found Buried On Island Near Jaffna

Thirty eight mortar bombs which had been buried were discovered on Puvarasantivu, an island off the coast of Ariyalai in Jaffna Peninsula yesterday.

A group of fishermen made this discovery and informed the Jaffna Police. A special police team arrived at the site with a team of Special Task Force and launched a search operation, uncovering 38 mortars.

Police are investigating on the finding. It is suspected that the LTTE had hidden these mortars when they were retreating in the face of the government onslaught during the latter part of the war.
