Mihin Lanka Loss Rs. 3290 Million - Monthly Cost Of One Employee Rs 130,000

Mihin Lanka, the budget airline owned by the Sri Lankan government, has incurred a loss of Rs. 3290 million within the last two years, Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne said in Parliament a short while ago.

While saying there is a severe shortage of staff at Mihin Lanka, the Minister said the monthly expenditure of one employee stands at Rs. 129, 649.

“Total debts of the budget airline amount to Rs. 2830 million,” the Minister said while breaking them down as midterm and short term loans. He made these revelations responding to a question raised by UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake in Parliament today.

The government yesterday appointed Nishantha Ranatunga, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, as the new Chairman of the cash-strapped Mihin Lanka.
