Indian Shipping Minister Wants A Review of Katchatheevu Agreement

India’s Union Minister of Shipping G K Vasan on Friday said people, especially fishermen community in Tamil Nadu, want a review of the India-Sri Lankan agreement over the Katchatheevu issue and why can’t it be done.

“There is a feeling among the fishermen and most of the people in TN, why a review cannot take place. I am only conveying the feeling of the public,” Vasan told Indian reporters, the New Indian Express reported

In January this year, the Centre informed the Madras High Court that Katchatheevu belonged to Sri Lanka and Indian fishermen had no right to fish near the islet.
