Hambanthota Mayor Hands Over 'Toy Pistol' To Police!

Hambanthota Mayor Eraj Fernando, who is at the center of a controversy due to his alleged involvement in the attack on UNP MPs in Hambanthota on April 17, has reportedly handed over his 'toy pistol' to the Hambanthota Police Station yesterday.

The Mayor said the pistol he brandished during the commotion was a 'toy pistol' and he actually attempted to 'protect' UNP MPs from the unruly crowd.

The Hambanthota Police has recorded a statement from the Hambanthota Mayor regarding the incident. The same police station on Monday arrested four people in connection with the clash. They were released on bail within a matter of few hours.

A spokesman of the Department of Police today told 'Asian Mirror' that it would conduct an inquiry into the Hambanthota Mayor's conduct and his 'toy pistol'.

The Parliamentarians representing the United National Party on Saturday staged a protest in front of the Hambanthota police station calling for the arrest of the Hambanthota Mayor.
