Prime Minister Has shown He’s Not Racist By His Own Deeds: Muslims

Investment Promotions Deputy Minister Faizer Musthapha has said Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne has proven that he is not a racist by his own deeds.                                                             

He made this remark addressing a meeting held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs where appointment letters were handed over to ‘WAKUF’ committee members. Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne who also overlooks the Ministry of Religious Affairs chaired the meeting.

WAKUF Committee is entrusted with the task of taking up the leadership in Muslim Religious Affairs, Investigating into the shortcomings of Mosques, Registration of Mosques, Appointing Trustees, and Solving Conflicts within Mosques etc. Appointing new members to the Islamic WAKUF Board was done under the guidance of Department of Muslim Affairs.

The Deputy Minister also commended the attempts made by the Prime Minister to ensure religious harmony in the country. “Without paying mere lip service, he actually proves his commitment to ethnic and religious harmony in this country by his own deeds,” he added.

The Prime Minister earned the ire of Sinhala-Buddhist organizations when he intervened in the controversy involving the Principal of a leading Muslim school in Gampola. He also led a protest in Gampola against Sinhala–Buddhist organizations which, according to him, spread racism in the country.
