Days after the removal of President's official song from Youtube, a newspaper has run an article on the launch of the song.
According to the article published in the Daily Mirror, the official song was launched by the President on January 7.
The song was released to mark the first year of Maithripala Sirisena Presidency. The music video of the song, which came under severe criticism from various quarters of the society, was directed by Anura Madhawa Jayasekera, who directed popular Sinhala tele-series 'Mahathala hatana'. It was produced by an individual named Dr. Arosha Fernando.
It was removed from Youtube following serious criticism for portraying the President as a king. The song also offers blessings to President Sirisena to "rule the land forever", in stark violation of basic tenets of democracy and good governance.
President Sirisena had repeatedly assured during his election campaign that he would not be a king, but a servant of the public.
