Report On Alleged Kidney Racket To Be Handed Over To Minister

The five member committee which was appointed to investigate into the alleged kidney racket at several hospitals in Colombo is expected to hand over its report to Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne today.

The committee, headed by Deputy Director General (Dental Services) Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, was appointed on January 23.

The other members of the committee include Deputy Director General (Medical Services) Dr. Lakshmi C. Somathunga, Director (Laboratory Services) Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe, Consultant Medical Administrator Dr. Rajapriya Balasuriya and Senior Assistant Secretary Rohana Silva.

The controversy regarding the alleged kidney racket broke out when Indian media reported about the alleged organ theft in four private hospitals in Colombo. It was said that the report was based on evidence given by several people from the Telangana State, who were arrested for involvement in an international kidney racket.
