Enjoining Order On National Hockey Team Recalled

February 05, 2016

Colombo District Court Judge T.D. Gunasekara today recalled the enjoining order issued against the national hockey team, preventing their application for visas from the Indian High Commission.

He made this decision following the submission made by Deputy Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena on behalf of the Director General of Sports.

The court was informed that the Minister of Sports has powers to select the team under Section 40 of the Sports Act, and it had been done accordingly.

The plaintiff has misled the court to obtain an enjoining order, it was argued, based on this fact.

The court was further told that the team had already obtained visas from the Indian High Commission.
