Fisheries Ministry To Be Set Up In India To Tackle Issues With Sri Lanka

The Indian central government has received suggestions to set up a Fisheries Ministry at the Centre mainly to resolve problems in the fisheries sector including the ones that have arisen with Sri Lanka.

Kerala Pradesh Matsya Thozhilali Sangham (BMS) has demanded that a Fisheries Ministry should be set up at the Centre to take speedy decisions on issues related to the fisheries sector.

The state committee meeting held in Kochi stated that if a Ministry was established at the earliest, it would help a great deal to uplift fishermen across the country.

The KPMTS had also said that apart from taking steps to prevent Pakistani and Sri Lankan navies from arresting fishermen who venture into their waters, the ministry could work for the arrested fishermen’s release.
