President Visits Beruwala Soon After Returning From Bolivia

Soon after his return from Bolivia, President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Beruwala a short while ago.

He was accompanied by Minister Mervyn Silva, Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena and several other ministers of the cabinet. The President held discussions with all stakeholders of the issue including the representatives of all religions. "We should not allow anyone to harm lives and properties of other people," the President said soon after he entered the District Secretariat.

He said there would be a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and the perpetrators would certainly be punished! At the meeting with the President, religious leaders said they wanted to live in peace and harmony, and urged the President to help them in achieving that.

Sources in Beruwala said the President is to visit other areas too that were affected by clashes between Sinhala groups and Muslims. He will also examine the progress of relief services that are being carried out in the area.
