Rajarata University In Turmoil

Rajarata university in Mihintake has been closed down until further notice by the university authorities to ensure the safety of the university staff, a member of the academic staff told Asian Mirror.

The students surrounded the Vice Chancellor's office yesterday demanding him to revoke the suspension of several students. Reports coming from Anuradhapura say the Vice Chancellor and some staff members of the university are still trapped inside the Vice Chancellor's office.

Over 300 students of the Rajarata University were outside the vice chancellor’s office yesterday demanding the lifting of suspension imposed on 13 fellow students. Although several senior Police officers negotiated with the students to rescue the university staff, the discussions did not bear fruit.

When contacted by Asian Mirror, the Police Media Unit said the Police would take measures to ensure the safety of the Vice Chancellor and others staff members.
