DIG Anura Senanayake Gets Third Service Extension

Police chief of the Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake has received his third service extension two days ago.

The Cabinet of Ministers had approved his service extension at the last Cabinet meeting which was held at Temple Trees and sent their decision to the Public Services Commission headed by former Supreme Court Judge Satya Hettige.

Senior DIG Senanayake is now 62 years old and his third service extension would be valid until February, 2015. According to police sources, Senanayake is presently the most senior officer in the police service.

Senanayake came under severe criticism from the opposition and media over his alleged links with the country's political hierarchy. However, he is a police officer who is vastly experienced in the field of battling crime. A few months ago, it was in the grapevine that the Senior DIG would be appointed to a key position in the Urban Development Authority upon his retirement.

Apart from his career in the police service, he was also a popular singer in Sri Lanka during the late 80s and early 90s.
