Police To Expedite Case Against Top Trade Union Leaders

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today instructed the Slave Island police to take necessary advice from high ranking police officers to conclude the criminal case filed against thee trade union leaders Saman Rathnapriya, Joshep Stalin and K.B. Sirisena over violating a court order on May 01.

The Magistrate, while instructing the Police to take necessary measures to conclude the case without further delay, said that this type of cases should not be dragged as the May day rally was already over.

Despite a court order, the Joint Trade Union Alliance attempted to hold a May Day rally at Hyde Park on May 01. The Colombo Fort Magistrate issued the court order after considering a complaint filed by BOC workers union whose May Day rally too was to take place at the same location.

BOC union stated said they reserved the venue first for the May Day rally after paying money to the Colombo Municipal Council. 

The Trade union leaders were released on a Rs. 500000 surety bail each last month.
