PM Wants Rajapaksa's Signature To Consider Protest Over Hambantota Incident

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that any protest by the Joint Opposition over the incident at Hambantota will be considered in Parliament if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa places his signature in such a protest.

He was responding to a question raised by MP Dinesh Gunawardena under Standing Orders 23 (2), regarding the clash during the protests in Hambantota on Saturday.

A protest organized by the Joint Opposition was dispersed by police on Saturday when the work on a new industrial zone in Hambantota was commenced. Over 50 people were arrested with respect to the clashes.
