Industrial Production In Sri Lanka On The Increase

The Index of industrial Production (IIP) shows that the volume of industrial production has increased by 3.6% in December 2016, compared to December 2016, the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) said.

The statistics are given below:

Manufacturing Industries: Furniture (21.6%), Machinery and equipment (19.4%), Basic pharmaceutical products (14.5%), Non-metallic mineral products (14.5%) all showed increase in December, compared to the year before.

Food products have increased by 1.6 % since December 2015, the figures showed.

However tobacco products (11.3%), wood products (6.3%), electrical equipment (6.3%) and refined petroleum products (4.9%), reported a decrease in the volume of production in December 2016, compared to the year before.
