Sri Lanka Announces Supports For Qatar's UNESCO Candidate

President Maithripala Sirisena has announced Sri Lanka’s support of Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Qatar's candidate for the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the Penninsula reported. 

At a meeting in Colombo, President Sirisena had said his support of the Qatari candidate for the post of UNESCO Director-General, stemmed from the excellent relations between the two countries, and his confidence in the capabilities of the Qatari candidate. 

Dr. Al Kawari had thanked President Sirisena for his support, and shared with him his vision for the advancement of the UNESCO, stressing how keen he was to cooperate with Sri Lanka in the fields of education, heritage and science.

Dr. Al Kawari had also met with Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella and other top officials of the Sri Lanka government during his visit.
