Delayed Justice To Victims: CID Finally Arrests Three Soldiers Over Rathupaswala Shooting

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today arrested three Army personnel in connection with the shooting incident in Rathupaswala, in 2013. 

The CID made the arrests after conducting an investigation into the shooting incident which claimed the lives of two persons. 

The incident occurred when the Army troupes, led by Brigadier Deshapriya Gunawardena, opened fire on civilians who launched a protest demanding clean drinking water. 

Gunawardena was later given a diplomatic posting by the Rajapaksa government, as the Defense attache to the Embassy of Turkey.

As a result of the incident, the Rajaapksa government and its defense apparatus drew heavy criticism on national and international platforms. 

Police sources said the arrested Army personnel would be produced before court.
