Central Bank Governor Coomaraswamy Orders Tender Board Off-Duty Till Inquiry Is Over

Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy has made the decision to reconstitute the Tender Board that operated during the period February 2015 – March 2016 until the inquiry into the Treasury bond scandal is complete.

In a letter to the members the Governor said, ‘in the context of good governance and in order to enable a conducive environment for the ongoing proceedings of the Commission of Inquiry, it would be appropriate if the officers who were members of the Tender Board during the period from February 2015 to March 2016 to not continue to hold such positions until the findings of the inquiry are made.’

The Presidential Commission was appointed to inquire into the Treasury bond scandal on January 22. The Commission – consisting Supreme Court Judges Kankanithanthri T. Chitrasiri, Prasanna Sujeewa Jayawardena and former Deputy Auditor General Kandasamy Velupillai began formal hearings on February 6.
