Police Arrest Over 20 For Trying To Rob Houses Of Meethotamulla Victims

Police have arrested 20 people for trying to rob houses damaged due to the collapse of the Meetotamulla garbage dump. 

A Police spokesman said the individuals attempting to rob houses during rescue missions had become a serious concern for the law enforcement authorities. 

"Apart from rescuing the victims, we now have to pay attention to protect their houses and belongings," he added. 

The officer stressed that the Police would take stringent action on those trying to steal the belongings of the garbage dump victims. 

Rescue missions are currently underway under the initiative of military forces. 

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe has been appointed by the government to lead the rescue operations.
