PM Now In Talks With Trade Unions: Government Desperate To Reach Consensus

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is currently conducting a meeting with petroleum trade unions after talks held throughout today with Petroleum Industries Minister Chandima Weerakkody failed.

The talks between the Minister and the trade union representatives ended inconclusively with unions deciding to continue with the strike.

During the meeting, the unions asked for an assurance from the President that the Trincomalee oil tanks would not be sold to India.

The Minister, in response said, he could not commit to anything without consulting the President.

India and Sri Lanka are set to agree on a partnership to jointly manage the oil storage tanks in Trincomalee.
