Mano Ganesan Questions Police Inaction On Attacks Against Minorities At Cabinet Meeting

National Co-existence Dialogue and Official Languages Minister Mano Ganesan at the Cabinet meeting yesterday raised the question of Police inaction in the face of increased attacks on Muslim establishments and places of worship.

The Co-existence Minister had also raised the issue of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galgoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera storming into his ministry last week.

The Minister had also raised concerns over the burning of Muslim-owned shops and businesses and attacks against mosques that have increased over the past weeks, instigated by BBS anti-Muslim rhetoric.

The President and Prime Minister in response said it was up to the Police to take action against attacks against minorities.

The President and Prime Minister had instructed Law and Order Minister Sagala Rathnayake to ensure that area chiefs of Police are held responsible for any attacks against minorities
