"JVP Is Guilt-free" -Premakeerthi's Wife Urges President To Punish Real Killers

Nirmala Alwis, wife of the late Premakeerthi de Alwis has today urged the President to take action against the killers of her husband. She had also mentioned that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) was not responsible for the killing. She had made these comments today (31) at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) premises during a commemoration event to mark the 25th death anniversary of Premakeerthi.

A popular announcer and a song writer, Premakeerthi was taken out of his home on July 31, 1989, by an unidentified gang. His dead body was found hours later.

Speaking further, Nirmala Alwis has stated that only a few people are really concerned about the story of the death of her husband. She had come to a conclusion that JVP was not responsible and had implied that one should not use Premakeerthi’s death for political gains.

She also stated that the court case against those who were said to be responsible for the death ended in a farce.

She had requested the President to do justice for Premakeerthi by bringing those who were really responsible in front of the law. She also hoped that her plea would not go unanswered.
