Police And STF Cordon Off Hanwella - CEA Says Nothing Wrong With Factory!

Police and STF have beefed up security in Hanwella area to prevent protests by villagers demanding drinking water.

A spokesman from the Police Media Unit said special Police and STF teams have been deployed in the area to ensure law and order. Villagers told Asian Mirror that there was a heavy presence of Police and STF in the area this morning.

However, villagers assert that they will continue to fight until the rubber manufacturing company under question is relocated.

Meanwhile, Saranga Alahapperuma, Chairman of the Central Environment Authority said there was nothing wrong with the waste disposal system of the rubber manufacturing plant.

"We have set guidelines for them and they are adhering to our guidelines. Therefore, we have no issue with their waste disposal system," Alahapperuma.

Meanwhile the protesters who were chanting slogans in Hanwella yesterday (16) said the rubber manufacturing company has "bribed" the Central Environmental Authority and therefore the CEA is not conducting a proper inquiry into the matter.
