Champika To Dodge UPFA Election Campaign For Uva

Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka will not take part in the government's election campaign for the Uva Provincial Council election, a spokesman of the Jathika Hela Urumaya said.

The election propaganda campaign of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), is handled by a top level committee that includes several cabinet ministers and seniors of the UPFA.

It is learnt that the Jathika Hela Urumaya, a major constituent party of the government, will not play any active role in the propaganda campaign of the government.

The JHU earlier announced that it would not contest the Uva Provincial Council election. The UPFA also lost of the support of the National Freedom Front as it decided to contest separately for the Uva Provincial Council election.

Both Weerawansa and Ranawaka were the main speakers for the United People's Freedom Alliance at all the national and provincial level election campaigns after 2010.

The JHU spokesman also said that Minister Ranawaka would be "busy" in the coming weeks with the national level programmes organized by the JHU. "Therefore", he said, "he will not have time to actively take part in the election campaign of the government."
