Government Will Clamp Down On Irregular Waste Disposal And Dengue Breeding Grounds

The government today approved a joint-proposal brought by Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha and Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka to implement the following as immediate steps to prevent the irregular disposal of garbage and prevent dengue in Colombo and the suburbs.

Accordingly, CCTV cameras will be installed to ensure garbage is not dumped in public places; it will be made compulsory to have name boards containing the details of owners or constructors at all construction sites in Colombo and the suburbs, and measures will be taken to file private cases against those institutions responsible for dengue breeding sites.

Additionally, houses and properties will be checked for dengue breeding grounds and legal action will be taken against those found guilty of maintaining unhealthy premises that encourage the breeding of dengue. Furthermore, relevant officers will be appointed to  provide facilities to the operating room to continue its task within 24 hours.
