Sri Lanka Team To Tour Pakistan For First Time Since Lahore Attack: Thilanga Keen To Stand By Pakistan

The Sri Lanka national cricket team will tour Pakistan for the first time since the national side came under attack in Lahore in 2009.

Sri Lanka is slated to meet Pakistan for three Twenty 20 matches in September and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala said he was keen to have even one of the encounters in Pakistan.

Sumathipala noted that Pakistan had stood by Sri Lanka when the country was at war and drew attention to the fact that even ‘safe’ locations like the UK had come under attack in recent times.

He said the matches would be played after suitable security assessments and said he was willing to ‘extend our fullest support to them [Pakistan] as the cricketing family of Asia.’
