Wimal Says UPFA Government Is Out Of Its Mind

National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa has stated that certain actions of the government imply that they has gone out of its mind.

Weerawansa has mentioned that the NFF decision to contest the Uva Provincial Council alone was taken due to several reasons which had created friction with the leadership of the government.

He had made these comments at an interview with the Sinhala newspaper Lankadeepa.

One major reason was the lack of response towards the 12 point proposal put forward by the NFF to the government. Weerawansa has stated that he even complained to the President regarding the inaction and still nothing has been done.

Furthermore, Weerawansa was dissatisfied with the treatment by the leadership of the UPFA towards smaller partners in the government. He said that certain critical decisions such as the decision to appoint and delegate powers to the three member committee on missing persons was taken with no knowledge of the NFF.

He also accused that the government was attempting to destruct smaller parties, citing the case of the NFF member in Uva Provincial Council who was convinced to join the SLFP. Weerawansa accused that this single individual seemed to be more important to the government that the NFF.

Weerawansa also said that his aim was to make the leaders of the government understand the threat that was posed to it by its own actions. He pointed out that the opposition parties were slowly building up a discourse, to which the government has not created a counter-current. It only responds to what the opposition does.

Weerawansa said that he was doing the hardest thing, by fighting against the government while staying in it. Anyone can leave and complain and it is not so difficult. But it serves no purpose, he said.
