September 11, 2017

"Do you ask for my instructions when other accidents happen?" President Maithripala Sirisena had asked senior police officers, when his brother, Lal Sirisena, surrendered to the Police after a hit-and-run accident.

The senior Police officers in the Polonnaruwa area had attempted to contact President Sirisena to get his instructions as to how they should proceed with the case involving the President's brother.

It is reported that they had attempted to contact the President through Senior DIG S.M. Wickremasinghe who heads the President's security unit.

"Tell them to do what they have to do regardless of my connection. Do they wait for my instructions when other accidents happen in the area," an annoyed President had told his security chief.

"It doesn't matter who he is. Let law take its course," the President said.

After this message was conveyed to the area Police chiefs, the Police took measures to remand the President's brother over the accident in which two people died.
