Warrant Out On Weerakumara Dissanayake For Failure To Show Up In Court Over Case Filed By Cinnamon Gardens Police

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara this morning issued a warrant of National Freedom Front (NFF) parliamentarian Weerakumara Dissanayake for failing to show up in court over case filed against him.  

Dissanayake is wanted over an incident that occurred on February 6, 2016, when the NFF staged a protest against the visit of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

Cinnamon Gardens Police alleged the protest was launched without prior permission from the Police and also alleged the NFF had used loudspeakers without license and hindered traffic along Bauddhaloka Mawatha.

Seven suspects including NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa and Jayantha Samaraweera, Roger Seneviratne, Mohammad Muzzamil and Don Lucian were arrested following the incident and are currently out on bail.
