Central Provincial Council Passes 20th Amendment To The Constitution Leaving Only North Western Provincial Council To Decide

The Central Provincial Council this morning approved the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, which seeks to hold all provincial council polls on one day.

Forty members voted for while nine members voted against the amendment.

With this approval, the Central Provincial Council joins the Eastern, North Central and Western Provincial councils that voted for the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

The Northern, Uva and Southern Provincial Councils voted against the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

The North Western Provincial Council is yet to vote on the amendment.
