Local Government Elections Will Be Held In January 2018: Prime Minister Informs Parliament

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremetunga this afternoon informed Parliament that the much-awaited Local Government elections would be held in January 2018.

The Prime Minister was responding to a questions raised by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Elections Commissioner earlier said that the Commission was in a position to hold the election on a Saturday, in the month of January 2018.

The Commissioner said the election could not be held in December, this year, due to GCE A/Level examination.
