GPS Technology To Be Used For Railway Operations: New System To Cost 31.8 Million

The government is to upgrade railway operations at three control rooms by introducing a GPS system at a cost of Rs. 31.8 million.

The proposal by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva received the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Accordingly, the control rooms of Colombo, Anuradhapura and Nawalapitiya will be upgraded to the new system using GPS.

The new system is expected to greatly improve railway operations as well as provide information to the public via the GPS system.
