Colombo High Court Releases Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee Convener Ryan Jayalath On Bail

The Colombo High Court this afternoon released Medical Faculty Students' Action Committee Convener Ryan Jayalath on bail.

Ryan Jayalath was arrested on August 10 for forcibly entering the Health Ministry premises during a protest on June 21 and causing damage to property.

Close to 100 students were hospitalized in the clash between students and security forces called in to deescalate the situation.

The local university students, led by Ryan Jayalath and other leaders were protesting against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

The students are insisting SAITM is shut down and completely abolished and have continued their protest against the private campus to date.

Meanwhile, last week, the President promised a final resolution on the SAITM debacle this week.
