Permanent Houses For Families Relocated Due To Floods: Government Intends To Resettle Flood Affected

The government yesterday approved a proposal by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to construct 1,122 houses to resettle families whose homes were completely damaged by floods.

The floods in May 2017 affected 15 districts and killed over 200, displacing close to 700, 000 people.

Over 2,093 houses were fully destroyed and 11,056 houses partially destroyed in the rains that ravaged the country over the 18th and 19th May weekend.

The 1,122 houses proposed by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa will be used to resettle those affected by floods in five of the fifteen affected districts.
