Supreme Court Upholds Appeal Court Ruling That Geetha Kumarasinghe Cannot Hold MP Post

The Supreme Court today upheld the Appeals Court ruling that Geetha Kumarasinghe could no longer function as an MP as she holds dual citizenship.

On May 3, the Appeal Court ruled that Geetha Kumarasinghe was disqualified as a Member of Parliament because she holds dual citizenship.

At the time Kumarasinghe blamed next-in-line UPFA candidate Piyasena Gamage for being masterminding the attack on her and said she would take the case to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court five-judge bench upheld the Appeals Court ruling of May 3, 2017 that Geetha Kumarasinghe was disqualified to hold an MP post as she holds dual citizenship.
