Sagala Steps Into Ensure An End To The Misuse Of Clinical Drugs: Proposes Introduction Of New Laws

Law, Order, and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka has decided to take steps to prevent the misuse of clinical drugs through combination of all relevant law enforcement agencies.

This decision was made at a meeting held at the ministry yesterday (6th Nov.) with the officials from National Drug Regulatory Authority, Attorney General’s Department, Customs Department, Government Analyst Department, Sri Lanka Navy, Special Task Force of Police, Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Government Health Service, and Import and Export Department.

Ratnayaka further emphasized at this meeting, the need of strengthening and introducing new related laws and orders when present regulations are insufficient.

Secretary to the Ministry Jagath Wijeweera, Chairman National Dangerous Drug Control Board Prof. Ravindra Fernando, Commander of STF and the Chief of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force Senior DIG M.R. Lathif, and DIG, Drug Enforcement Task Force, Sajeewa Medawatta and several officials participated at this meeting.
