Prasanna Ranaweera, Upali Kodikara And 31 Others Granted Bail: Arrested For Protesting In Hambantota

November 13, 2017

MP Prasanna Ranaweera, Provincial Councilor Upali Kodikara and 31 others arrested for protesting in Hambantota on October 6 were granted bail by the Hambantota Magistrate this morning.

On October 6 a group of protestors led by the Joint Opposition protested outside the Indian Consulate in Hambantota, despite a court order preventing them from doing so.

The protestors were agitating against the government decision to lease the Hambantota Port to the Chinese and Mattala Airport to India.

The Joint Opposition perceives these moves as the selling of national assets and has continued protests against the government moves.
