President Says No Detention Centres Under Current Government: Assures No One Is Held Illegally

President Maithripala Sirisena said there were no secret detention centers under present government and no one was held in custody, in an illegal manner.

The President gave this assurance when he held a discussion with some family members of missing persons at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday. 

During this meeting, they discussed their issues with the President, in detail.

President Sirisena said that he had a clear understanding of the matter, and added that the government was committed to give fair solutions to all. 

President Sirisena added that his aim was to provide speedy solutions to the issues faced by the family members of the missing persons.

The President also instructed state authorities to review the information about missing persons through the Office of Missing Persons and the Missing Persons Commission.

The officials including the Secretary to the President, Austin Fernando and the Secretary to the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation were also present at the meeting
