December 04, 2017

The third Test match between Sri Lanka and India was halted a few times when the Sri Lankan players repeatedly complained of breathing difficulties stemming from air pollution.

Four Sri Lankan players, including two bowlers Lahiru Gamage and Suranga Lakmal, left the field after falling sick, last morning. As Sri Lanka ran out of reserved players, the team's fielding coach Nick Lee was getting ready to take to the field as a fielder.

Most of the Sri Lankan players were seen wearing masks while they were on the field.

During the last stages of the Indian innings, Sri Lanka fielded with just 10 players, the team management confirmed.

" Four players were vomiting. A couple of players were struggling to breathe. we were running short of substitute fielders" a Sri Lankan cricket spokesman told Cricbuzz yesterday.

Following concerns raised by the Sri Lankan team, match referee David Boon had to seek the assistance of an independent doctor to assess the situation.

As Sri Lankan players kept complaining, Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to declare the innings while India was 536 for 7.

it was apparent that Kohli was not happy with the repeated complaints of Sri Lankan players.
