Low Pressure Area Developing South Of Andaman Islands: Impact On SL Not Entirely Known Yet

December 04, 2017

The Meteorological Department has said a low pressure area is developing south of Andaman Islands, 1700km away from Sri Lanka, and heading towards India.

Although its impact on Sri Lanka is not entirely clear yet, it is believed that it may lash the Eastern part of Sri Lanka tonight or tomorrow.

Observers say it is also possible that the low pressure area changes track and move away from the island.

This is a fresh development after a cyclone wreaked havoc in the island on Wednesday, causing heavy damage to properties.

Meanwhile, the Met Department said last evening that showers or thundershowers wimight occur at times in Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.
