December 07, 2017

Attorney General Jayanatha Jayasuriya said he gathered useful knowledge from the World Bank Stolen Asset Recovery (STAR) initiative to carry out similar work in Sri Lanka.

"Gathered knowledge useful when we launch our operation within our domestic system. We can't achieve this alone; only through effective international cooperation we can meet our challenges," the Attorney General said, addressing the forum.

The inaugural Global Forum on Asset Recovery (GFAR) was held in Washington, DC, December 4th to 6th, hosted by the United Kingdom and the United States with support from the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR).

Its inaugural meeting focused on assistance to four priority countries: Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Ukraine.

The World Bank Stolen Assegt Recovery initiative has worked closely with the Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities and the Attorney General's Department on the corruption investigation front.
