December 18, 2017

Further discussions on signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Sri Lanka and Malaysia will be a key area of discussions between the visiting Malaysian Prime Minister and the Sri Lankan authorities, informed government sources told Asian Mirror.

The first discussions in this regard took place when Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena held talks with the Malaysian Prime Minister, in December, last year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah arrived in Sri Lanka, yesterday, on a three day visit.

The Malaysian Prime Minister is expected to meet his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe and other leaders of the Sri Lankan government during the visit.

Malaysia's International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and Malaysia's Special Envoy to India and South Asia Tun S. Samy Vellu were the other members of the high-profile delegation visiting Sri Lanka.

On Monday, Najib and his wife will be given an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a one-to-one meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena.

Sirisena and Najib will also witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding and agreements between the two countries in the fields of training, science and technology, communication and bio-economy.
