Sagala Says Police Have Arrested Over Rs. 130 Million Worth Heroin In 445 Raids This Year

The Police have so far arrested over Rs. 130 million worth Heroin this year in 445 raids, Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka said. 

Issuing a statement, the Minister said the Police Special Task Force (STF) and Narcotics and Organised Crimes Division had conducted these raids.

The STF had taken Rs. 52 million (5385 grammes) worth Heroin while the Narcotics and Organised Crimes Division had seized over Rs. 82 million (8226 grammes) worth Heroin. 

"The STF had conducted 285 raids and arrested 303 suspects while the Organised Crimes and Narcotics Division, formed in August this year, has conducted 160 raids and arrested 167 suspects," the Minister explained. "So, altogether we have arrested 470 suspects in relation to drug related crimes this year."

The Minister asserted that the drug menace would soon be eradicated from the country.
