Further Erosion In Dinesh Gunawardena's MEP: Somaweera Chandrasiri Pledges Support To President

December 28, 2017

Causing further erosion in the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) led by Dinesh Gunawardena, Vice Chairman of the party Somaweera Chandrasiri today pledged support to President Maithripala Sirisena.

Addressing a press conference at the SLFP headquarters, Chandrasiri said he would no longer support former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Chandrasiri functioned as a member of the Joint Opposition, until his crossover. The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna has so far lost two of its prominent members since the announcement of the Local Government election.

Two weeks ago, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna member, Parliamentarian Sriyani Wijesiwckrama joined the SLFP, pledging support to the President.

She was appointed the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils.
