PM Says He Has Asked Speaker To Convene Parliament To Discuss Bond Issue: Says He Has Nothing To Hide

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he had asked Speaker Karu jayasuriya to convene Parliament to debate the bond issue.

"Some parties have called for the convention of Parliemant. Dinesh Gunawardena spoke to me directly over the matter. I am willing to do that. I have already requested the Speaker to take necessary steps. We have nothing to hide. our conduct has been transparent," the Prime Minister said, addressing the national assembly of the UNP, in Colombo, yesterday.

"We have conduct probes into the Bond issue thrice. First we appointed the Pitipana Committee and then the matter was refered to COPE. The Presidential Commission was the third investigation. This is the first time the same issue was investigated thrice by three bodies. That shows the level of transparency within our government," he added.

Wickremesinghe recalled he asked the Attorney General to take action on the matter when the COPE report was out.

"My question is this. The money involved in the bond issue is recoverable as accounts of the Perpetual Treasuries have been freezed. But What about the thousands of billions robbed by the Rajapaksas. Are they recoverable?"
