Protests Break Out Against Uva Chief Minister In Badulla: Protesters Demand Immediate Removal Of CM

A massive demonstration was held in front of the Hindu School in Badulla yesterday against Uva Province Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayaka who allegedly made the Principal of the school kneel down.

Teachers, parents and civil society activists joined the protest calling for stern action against the Chief Minister.

They alleged Dasanayake harassed the school principal for failing to carry out an order given by the political authorities.

Dissanayake, a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, was appointed as the Chief Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena. The President, however, is yet to take action on the Chief Minister.

It was also alleged that the Chief Minister had threatened to transfer the Principal to a remote area.

Following the incident, Dassanayake, on Sunday,  announced his resignation from the post of the Provincial Education Minister.
